Friday Feels

Happy Friday from Florida!

We've had a beautiful week here, and are now heading into a rainy weekend.  I'm okay with that.  I like the balance of having some rainy days.  I'm writing this, quite honestly, exhausted.  Last night we were up from 3-6am, and I never got into that good recovery sleep.  I just made myself a little iced coffee in order to write this.  The struggle is real!

What I'm feeling:  This funny "be kind to everyone" sign.  But how true?  Everyone is fighting some sort of battle in general... This is a humorous way to remind us all to be kind and love.

Important thought to consider: suffering comes mainly from resistance and not circumstances.

Favorite moment of the week: By far, my manatee experience.  I am still thinking about how amazing it was to be in the presence of those gentle giants.

Lesson learned: I had a good reminder that just because something is natural, doesn't mean it isn't extremely powerful or medicinal.  Case in point:  I had a juice that was loaded with turmeric, and it dropped my blood sugar to the point where I couldn't feel my face.  Thankfully, it went away quickly by eating and lying down.  Take what you eat seriously!  Food is medicine.  Next time I'll take my turmeric with food.

What I can't get enough of: Sushi burritos.  I've made them every day this week.  I like veggie ones with sushi rice, avocado, cucumber, umboshi plum paste, wrapped in nori.  I've also made a bunch with tuna and salmon.  SO good!

What I'm letting go of:  My husband asked me how much traffic my website is receiving, and I told him I didn't want to know.  I write here because I enjoy it.  Of course I want to generate a good amount of traffic so that I can grow, but I don't want to get so caught up in the numbers.  Every time I log into Instagram, I immediately see my follower count.  It's hard not to think about it when it's right there.  I don't want this to be more of that.

Who's inspiring me:  I started listening to Kathryn Budig + Kate Fagon's podcast, Free Cookies.  Have you listened to it?  This week's episode talked a lot about reinventing yourself, and I dug it.  Check it out!  Perfect for when you're driving in your car.

I keep coming back to this lens, and am dying to play with it.  Do any of you have a Lens Baby lens?  If so, which one, and do you like it?  Sometimes we just need some sort of new thing to play with to keep the creative and playful spark alive.  It's one of the reasons I've been drawing/coloring at night, which is much more affordable than a new lens.

I get asked about sunscreen all the time.  Sunscreen should be non-toxic, organic, non-nano sized particles, and ocean friendly (reef safe).  I have two favorites:  this SPF 20 + this SPF 30 for Bodie (and my face/shoulders/chest).  Both brands are excellent, and I trust them.  You really do not want to coat your body or baby in nasty chemicals.  Toxic sunscreens are actually linked to skin cancer.  The chemicals absorb into your body through your skin.  In general, use a rash guard and hat, and reapply sunscreen every hour or so.

Weekend Plans: None.  And I'd like to keep it that way.  I choose not to be busy.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend!

And a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my mom.  I love you.

With LOVE,

Lindsay
