March Q+A

Hey guys!

First, thank you so much for taking the time to submit such amazing questions. I am going to do my best to give them all justice!

Here we go!

What inspires your photography? How did you get into it?

Love this questions. I am inspired by nature, love, and human connections. I care most about how my images make the viewer feel.

I have always loved photography. I took a film class in high school, and then got a 4mp digital camera for Christmas back in the day… I remember thinking that was the coolest thing ever.

Photography was a bit of a hobby for me, and truthfully, being on Instagram made me want to improve my skills. I dove all in, bought new equipment, took courses, read books, studied composition, learned how to use Lightroom + Photoshop, and so forth. Eventually I started getting paid for it, and that’s when I decided to work really hard to make it a business.

How do you find a personal style with photography?

Keep shooting… every single day if possible, and shoot with intention. Play with your editing. Buy presets. Study other people’s work. Ask questions. And the big one: give yourself TIME and don’t judge yourself. It is really easy to compare yourself to others, but the truth is, it just takes time and playing around to figure out what you like. Don’t let what you see on Instagram overwhelm you.

What is the best time to visit 30A?

In all seriousness, I don’t think there’s a bad time. If you want to be able to swim in warm water, I’d say mid April-October. Love the spring + fall here. The holidays are also beautiful! January and February can vary a good deal. We can get rain, cold fronts with daytime temps in the 40s, thick fog, or 70 and sunny. You never know!

What brought you to yoga, and what does your current practice look like?

I’ve been practicing for over ten years! I started because I thought it was a good workout that would make me more toned. I stayed because I loved how it made me feel, emotionally and physically. I took my teacher training in 2015.

Current practice: It’s not as long as I’d like, and sometimes there’s a three year old hanging off of my neck. I have been practicing a lot of strength building flows lately, as a few injuries over the last year made me have to back off. I am ready to feel strong again. I also always make the time to open up my chest, shoulders, and hips.

In general, my practice is really a time for me to take care of my body; keep things strong, open, and moving; and hopefully quiet my mind. Yoga has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. I’m so grateful for the practice!

How close do you live to the beach?

About 1.5 miles by road. If I was a bird, even less.

Have you ever had your heart broken?

Oh yes. Big time. I was madly in love with my boyfriend in college, and as much as I could not see it at the time, we were not the right fit. It ended in a rather drawn out, messy, dramatic, and emotionally tormenting break up full of tears, anger, jealousy, and total craziness to be honest. I was devastated.

But you know what? I’m grateful for it. That relationship and that break up taught me a lot about myself, and really launched me into my journey of getting to know and love who I am. It taught me to value trust and communication above all, and you know what? I’d say that the number one thing that my husband and I have for each other is trust. I’m not sure if I would have had that now if I didn’t go through that previous heartbreak.

It’s funny how things work out. Break ups can be an ultimate blessing. If you’re going through one, it’ll make sense one day. I promise. Take this time to work on you.

What is on your photography wishlist?

Ummmmm, A DRONE. I cannot believe I haven’t taken the leap yet. This is the year though!

I’d also love an underwater set up for my DSLR. The water here in Florida with the Gulf and crystal clear springs is just too pretty not to have one.

Is your fluffy dog a doodle?

Nope. Lola is a standard poodle in constant need of a haircut. Her hair grows so fast! She was a rescue pup, and pretty much chose us to adopt her. She’s an awesome dog, but yeah, the hair is a lot.

Where do you shop?

Food

Whole Foods. I love Trader Joe’s but the closest one is 2 hours away. I also love to hit up the Farmer’s Market. We have so many here!

Photography Stuff

Amazon! Then usually B&H or Adorama.

Clothes

For clothes, I love Aerie. There stuff is just so soft, and when I’m working from home I wear comfies. Aerie’s empowering message to love your body and who you are is just so powerful, and I feel really good about shopping there for this reason. I LOVE that they don’t retouch their models. So rad!

What is your skincare and make up routine like?

My biggest splurge in life is probably my skincare. I really believe in taking care of my skin, and I love having a little ritual to begin and end the day with. My skin is incredibly sensitive, oily, and bad at exfoliating itself on it’s own. I deal with clogged pores, fine lines, and the occasional hormonal pimples (ugh).  Tata Harper has made the biggest difference in my skin’s health. I’ve been using her line for about 6 months. I love the resurfacing mask and serum.

Once a week I use my PMD Beauty at home microdermabrasion tool. It makes my skin feel amazing.

I wear sunscreen from the Whole Foods 365 line, and I wear hats!

I don’t really wear make up. I sometimes use RMS Beauty‘s Un-Cover Up and their Translucent Un-Powder. I used to wear mascara all the time, but kind of gave that up for most days.

That’s it!

Thank you again for asking such great questions. Just a little note here that none of this post is sponsored. Feel free to submit questions more below.

Have a beautiful day.

With LOVE,

Lindsay
