Dream Business: An Asset, Not a Job

In 2019, after four years of entrepreneurship, I chose my business model before choosing the business. Because it wasn’t just about making a living anymore, it was about simultaneously making a high quality life. I wanted to take the driver’s seat, and have control over my time, where I worked, and put my family first.

This was revolutionary for me, as for my entire life, I’ve done things the opposite way… and that’s how most of us are taught to do it.

The emphasis lies in “what do you want to be when you grow up?” instead of "what kind of life do you want to live?”

What is a direct sales business?

I had heard of direct sales businesses when I was younger, and always thought that they were either some sort of scam, or something that revolved around throwing a party with your friends and then them buying things (awkward city).

I had never once considered joining one of these “pyramid schemes.” I. was. so. wrong. If you have those same thoughts, I challenge you to ask yourself why you think this way. Is it simply because that’s what someone else told you, and you believed it to be true?

So what is a direct sales business? At it’s core, a company decides that instead of paying professional agencies and marketing channels to promote their products, they pay the people who love their products the most to share with others.

Why does this work? Because the single most powerful way to promote anything is through personal word of mouth. Companies literally pay actors to show up on commercials pretending to be your friend, mom, sister, dad, so you buy their products.

Direct sales businesses work really well for both the company and the independent distributor. They currently do over $110 billion in annual sales, and is one of the fastest growing business models in the world.

Most people (like my former self) do not understand the value of a direct sales business. People think in terms of “how much can I earn per month” doing direct sales, and not recognizing that they’re actually gaining an asset.

A Direct Sales business structure (Like Enagic who makes Kangen Machines) is an Asset, Not a Job.

An asset is anything that puts money in your pocket. A liability is anything that takes money out of your pocket. A direct sales business is not about being a salesperson, although yes, a sale is great because you get paid. When I sell a Kangen machine, I currently earn $2700. That’s great money.

But the real leverage of the business comes from building a network or collective of people which generates income for you and alongside you indefinitely. This builds real wealth beyond "make a sale, get paid.”

Rob Kiyosaki’s Four Approaches to Building Wealth

Everyone needs to know this because it is the secret to freedom. This should be required learning.

Two of the quadrants keep you stuck in the system.

The other two quadrants allow you to break free from the hustle + grind of life.

EMPLOYEE — THE E QUADRANT

Your income is derived via a salary which you cannot control. No matter how hard you work, your income will always be capped.  Most people are stuck here.

SELF-EMPLOYED — THE S QUADRANT

This describes the majority of people who call themselves ‘business owners’ — even those with a number of employees. In this quadrant, the company is entirely dependent on the owner’s time.

If he or she stops working, their income stops as well.

BUSINESS OWNER — THE B QUADRANT

This is the realm of entrepreneurs, people who design systems — machines comprised of people and processes to generate a profit.

INVESTOR — THE I QUADRANT

Investors use money to create more money. They don’t have to work because their money is working for them.

A direct sales business structure like Enagic’s allows you to break free from the E + S hustle and move to the B quadrant.

You make money by helping others get a product you love while also helping them switch into the B quadrant as well if they are interested in distributing with you.

Two reasons to join a direct sales business:

1) You help yourself meet your life + financial goals.

2) You help others meet their life + financial goals. (how incredible is that?)

So back to creating an asset, not a job…

A direct selling business is an asset because the other distributors working alongside you (those in the B quadrant with you) become an asset.  And it’s a beautiful flow of breaking people out of the matrix and into a life of freedom because your assets generate their own assets, and so forth.  A system of assets working towards freedom and abundance together.

How does this compare to other more socially accepted business structures?

In traditional small businesses, the focus of owners is to have employees, and not people in the B quadrant building a life of freedom alongside you.

The traditional corporate system really is a pyramid scheme, because there are a few ‘B’s and ‘I’s near the top, and more ‘E’s and ‘S’s at the base. A direct selling system is a reverse pyramid: its primary focus is to bring more and more ‘B’s to the top.

Bottomline: A direct sales structure frees people from the matrix and gives everyone access to what used to be the domain of the rich.

And there you have it. I hope this blog post helps break the direct sales stigma a bit. Questions? Just ask below.
