How to Get Shit Done: Create a Needle Mover List

Hey friends,

Do you ever feel like you’re constantly doing all the things, but getting absolutely nothing done? If you’re drowning in commitments, you may find yourself spending all day every day running around putting out fires. And maybe you’ve got a never ending to do list… you know, you check a few things off, only to add five more things on.

No one is going to give you time and space for the things that matter to you. It is 100% up to you to ensure that you’re creating this space.

Every ounce of time and energy that you spend on low leverage activities (those that do not have a large impact on your life goals) means the less time you have for things that actually matter to you. Accomplishing things that matter to you is highly correlated to your life satisfaction… just think about that for a second.

No one but you can make the time.

Everyone else will pile more shit on your to do list if you allow it.

And your life satisfaction comes from doing meaningful and purposeful tasks that are no where to be found in most people’s days.

There will never be enough hours in the day. Especially if you have kids. You have to make it a priority.

Enter: the Needle Mover List. Needle movers are the most valuable activities you can take to move you towards your long-term goals.

Because we know it’s not about doing big things every so often. It’s about doing little things daily that is going to move you towards your aspirations.

So the question is: what are your needle movers? What are a few high ROI (return of interest) tasks that would give you a sense of accomplishment to complete each day in addition to moving you towards whatever it is you’re creating? After you make a list, make sure you complete these tasks first before you start putting out fires.

I have learned time and time again that if I don’t do the stuff that’s important to me, my business, my health (like my sports and working out) earlier in the day they just do not happen. Something will always come up. There will be some kind of emergency or we will be too tired. Someone will be sick. I’ll need to get groceries. The school will call me. I’ll need to clean something. A dog will throw up. Without fail!

We all have an expiration date, a deadline. The hard truth is, you don’t have all the time in the world to fulfill your goals. Remember this when you need a little fire under your ass!

Create your needle mover list, and commit to it.

Discipline > motivation. You develop discipline by showing up and strengthening your discipline muscle.

With Love,

Lindsay
