I love Instagram + Facebook. I wouldn’t run an online business utilizing it if I didn’t enjoy it in the first place! It’s an incredible resource for entrepreneurship. It’s also a great place to build and maintain friendships, connect with a global audience, share passions, have meaningful conversations, and inspire/be inspired. There are of course darker sides to these platforms that I have worked hard to diminish. When I sign on, most days my newsfeed and interactions lead me to feel uplifted because I recognize that social media is exactly what I allow it to be. Today I’m sharing how I’ve made this possible.

Photoshopping Flamingos

It’s coming up on two years since two beautiful wild flamingos flew into town, and I was lucky enough to see them on the beach! The event was really cool, and you can read the original story here.

For the quick version, we had Tropical Storm Cindy come through, which landed right near Alabama. When the storm cleared, two flamingos were spotted on Orange Beach. I saw it in the news, and contemplated driving over that way… but what are the chances I’d even see them?

I’ve kind of realized that I talk about social media and our relationships with it a lot. I don’t know, it kind of fascinates me to be honest. How to be an Influencer

Influencers. It’s become a full fledged career that so many are striving for, but last year the concept sent me RUNNING in the opposite direction.

I guess I lost sense of the true meaning behind being an influencer, which in my opinion essentially means that you have the position to create change in other people’s behaviors. There was so much frustration surrounding algorithms, people buying fake followers + likes, being constantly asked to work for free, always trying to gain more numbers… I felt really turned off by it to be honest. I can sniff out insincerity like a hungry shark, and it stank.
