Unveiling Self-Actualization: What It Really Is (and Isn't!!)

I recently saw a post in a Facebook group about striving to embody your full potential. The comments were flooded with people sharing how they once tried, only to find it self-defeating, exhausting, stressful, and leading them to chase perfection. They concluded that the concept was just too hard and unattainable.

I've been reflecting on this for a while, pondering the ideas of "self-actualization" and "highest potential." What I've realized is that there are some major misconceptions about these concepts. None of this is supposed to make you stressed out, feel like you're failing, or make you feel like a loser.

oracle cards: a tool for individuation and cultivating intuition

Individuation is the process of becoming a whole being, developing a relationship with oneself, and the process of becoming the fullest actualization version of the oneself. The term was developed by Carl Jung. It is synonymous with self-realization, cultivating a strong sense of inner knowing, and deeply connected to a strong intuition.

intuition is a thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning, and is something I deeply believe in cultivating. Intuition comes deep from within, involves listening to oneself, and trusting oneself more than any outside voices (which is why I believe many of us aren’t taught to live intuitively. You cannot control a person who has a strong sense of intuition and the will to follow it, but we’ll save that for another day).

Ask the Big Questions

I couldn’t tell you what year it was… maybe 15 years ago… I have a very distinct memory of riding up a chair lift at Whiteface Mountain with an old family friend. They were asking me what I was up to in life. My answer: I was hustling in grad school. I wore the busy-ness badge and paying my dues certificate with pride.

“But are you happy?” They asked?

I remember being really uncomfortable with the question.

What is the Law of Attraction?

You’ve probably noticed by now that I’ve been focusing a lot on energy and vibrations in recent blog posts and social media posts. When I “cleared the air” recently here, about what’s been on my mind, it made me realize that this blog post needed to quickly follow up. I want to make sure we are on the same page!

So today we are going to talk about the Law of Attraction (LoA), what it is exactly, my understanding of it, how it came to be a part of my life, and what this means for you. I would also like to clear up any misconceptions about the LoA… because I know there are a lot out there.

Can We Clear the Air?

Hey guys,

I need to get real with you all and clear the air on some stuff I’ve been thinking about lately, but have been a little afraid to share outright. Today’s post is intended to do just that.

Let me say a few things first. This is in no way trying to win approval, justify anything, receive validation, or anything of the like. This is simply to share because I think staying transparent and open with you all is of utmost importance.

Okay, here we go…

Alignment before Action

I am a former obsessive action taker. Over-achiever. Over-doer.

What does that mean? It means that I am really good with taking action, making things happen, and so forth. I truly cannot sleep or chill until I bring my visions to life…

That sounds great, but the results were not really showing up. I was constantly stressed, and felt like I was swimming uphill.

Something was not right. So I stepped back, and took a really long hard look at myself.

I have a history of burnout. It’s a pattern that seems to repeat itself in my life.

Feel motivated. Work like crazy. Get frustrated. Feel burnout. Quit.
